" " A global dimension

There is now widespread recognition that a global dimension is essential in any curriculum that is to prepare young people for the twenty-first century. This applies not only to what goes on in schools but also to the education and training of teachers.

The second annual conference of the Global Teacher Project aims to begin work on a national strategy to embed the global dimension in ITET. Delegates will not only have the opportunity to share existing practice and explore issues, but will contribute directly to this strategy.

This conference is for those who:

  • work in Initial Teacher Education and Training (ITET)
  • have responsibility for trainee teachers in schools
  • provide training in global education for ITE
  • seek to support teacher educators to deliver the global dimension in ITET
" " Global education
Global education is the term used internationally to describe the academic field of enquiry concerned with promoting global perspectives in education.
" " Conference aims

This is the second of three annual conferences which aim to develop collaborative practice towards a national strategy for incorporating a global dimension into ITET.

The purpose of the conference is to:

  • develop collaborative practice towards a national strategy
  • share current debates, research and practice
  • provide networking opportunities for tutors
  • provide practical ideas on methodologies for delivering the global dimension in ITET
" " Global Teacher Project
This conference has been organised by the Global Teacher Project (GTP) of the World Studies Trust. The Project is a national initiative working with university tutors, their students, and mentors in schools to develop a global dimension in the curriculum. As part of its work GTP encourages exploration of both Southern and Black perspectives. The Project is also interested in developing a network of tutors and teachers in the UK committed to global education.
" " The World Studies Trust
The Global Teacher Project is an initiative of the World Studies Trust, an educational charity that was set up in 1988 to highlight the need for global perspectives in schools and teacher education. The Trust has played a key role in supporting a variety of initiatives in global education.
" " Venue
The conference will be held at GMB National College, College Road, Whalley Range, Manchester. The College is a 19th century listed building, set in nine beautiful acres in the heart of Manchester. Accommodation includes private bedrooms with ensuite bathroom, TV, tea and coffee making facilities. There are also bedrooms designed for delegates with special needs.
" " Cost
Residential participants: £270; non-residential: £150. To secure your place a deposit of £25.00 (cheques to World Studies Trust) is required by January 31st. The balance is payable by March 1st 2004.

There are limited crêche spaces available. Cost is dependent upon age of children and whether they will be residential. Please contact us for more details. Provision can only be made for advance bookings.
